Speardiver small hole speargun rubber tubing

  • Speardiver small hole speargun rubber tubing is available from FreediveStore.com, it's the highest quality rubber you will find. The tubing has a reduced inner diameter (ID) of 1/16" this means the hole is smaller than conventional speargun tubing. All other speargun band tubing comes with 1/8" inner diameter.

Speardiver small hole rubber tubing next to conventional 1/8" ID tubing.

    Why this format was chosen

    • Quality speargun rubber tubing is made of Latex/natural rubber, which comes from the sap of the rubber tree. Latex in its natural color Amber is less resistant to sunlight. An outer layer of black dyed Latex adds UV protection and extends the life and performance of the band.
    • Cut a band after a day of spearfishing and you'll see water come out of the hole. The cycles of stretching and compression draw water into the band no matter how well you tie the wishbone, and it remains trapped there. Salt water damages the band from the inside, you can see this layer of deteriorated rubber immediately around the hole of a well used band. The small 1/16" hole significantly lessens water intrusion into the band, improving performance and increasing longevity.
    • Less hole equals more rubber at the same diameter, which equals more power without increasing the profile of your speargun.
  • Someone said that a smaller inner diameter will make wishbones difficult to insert. This is not true. As with conventional 1/8" ID rubber tubing, it's easy to insert knotted wishbones into the small hole rubber tubing using simply needlenose pliers and a little dishwashing liquid for lubrication. No special wishbone insertion tool is necessary.

I then use a piece of pvc tube to force the pliers in the open position.

grab the knot through the rubber tube and pull out the pliers leaving the knot inside.

  • I'll be putting in a order with you in January for bands on my personal gun, Harry said he really likes this stuff.
    Nice job Dan.:thumbsup2:

  • Thanks Don.

No .. THANK YOU Dan, you bring so much to this great little
dive community. I just wished I still lived across the St from the Fountain Bleau in Miami Beach so I could go diving with you guys. In 1977 it used to be a little sharky near the pier.
    Cheers, Don

  • 1-19-10 was my second spearing day with the new Speardiver 16mm bands.
Dan helped me rig the new bands and wishbones. These bands are the shitz.
These bands are very fast and smooth. The first time I reached up and pulled a band back I could feel the difference. I am sure that I could pick out the new bands from the old bands blindfolded. The new bands feel more alive than say new RA bands. There is no "dead spot" as you are pulling the band back and the spear shoots very fast even with bands that are too long.
This is the band material that I'll be using from now on.
Thanks Speardiver for another great product. :thumbsup2:

  • Dan, do you think the wide and flat end on these will totally prevent any water intrusion?
    limit the intrusion?
make no difference and who cares cos water intrusion is a myth?

    i like to spear fish

  • I have seen water in my friend's bands but never in mine. I use metal wishbones and tie them very tight.
Cheers, Don..... Shite the weather to F-cked . wind gusting to 83mph with heavy rain.

  • There is always water intrusion with "normal" cord wishbones. But does it REALLY affect the performance of the bands.

Personally, I think water intrusion factor is a negligible factor... but a decent marketting ploy. ;)

The 3% extra material over a standard 5/8" band will likely affect performance more than any water intrusion.

Realistically, if water intrusion is even remotely a factor, you should be branching into polespear bands... band ID's are a lot larger & OD's a lot smaller, making any effect much more pronounced.

If you cut open a used band you will see that the saltwater rots the band from the inside. There will be a discoloration around the hole and that area lost it's elastic properties. Water intrusion is not just a problem affecting immediate performance, it has long term negative effects.

See, now that's an even better marketing ploy! And with a more solid base. :D

I didn't know you had moved on from the old argument (how water inside the band slows the shot down). ;)

  • I'm sure the bands are excellent, but I still have plenty 5/8" and my economy is not the best on these days to be buying something that I REALLY don't need.:(

I wouldn't mind to try them in one (or two) of my guns without charging you for the endorsement... :rolleyes1:

  • I am very fortunate to be able to try out new gear. Thank you Dan :thumbsup2:

That said, I wanted to give a progress report on the Speardiver bands and wishbone inserts.
I have used these bands and inserts for 68 days of spearing so far since 1-18-10 :)

Speardiver Bands--are GREAT. With NO problems at all. No deformations, no breakage, no power loss, no nothing bad:)
I'll never go back to anything but Speardiver bands. They look and feel like the day I put them on my speargun :toast:
Many times I have just one band stretched on my 120cm speargun and the spear still shoots clear through 40in fish.

Speardiver wishbone inserts--once again, you gotta have these. I have had ZERO problems at all with these inserts. I shoot a lot in a days time, which means my wishbone dynema takes a beating. Changing out the dynema is super easy and fast with these inserts. I'm using the same inserts for 68 days of spearing and they look and work like new. If a spearo shoots a closed band hole muzzle, these wishbone inserts really are the best and easiest. You can change out a band or replace your wishbone dynema while sitting in a yak.

    Hope this helps.:toast:

  • Hello Dan and guys, I'm from Brazil and here we have only a few brands to choose for any kind of spearfishing equipment, but have you tested these bands against the rob allen blue bands? I've heard that RA were the best band you can get in 16mm and 20mm.

I'm glad to be part of this forum.

    Thanks!

  • for the past year or so i only have the rob alllen blue bands and the Speardiver bands,, both 16mm
id say in a direct comparison the Speardiver bands are slightly more powerful and hold up better over time.
